Time will Pass Anyway
Lauren and her degree!

Lauren and her degree!

I've had this quote in my head lately.

I think it started when I realized that my friend Lauren was "already" graduating with her Ph.D. I realize I'm not the one who has been in school all these years, but it sounded like she had such a looong road ahead of her when she was just starting. But "just like that", she's done! And yes, it was a long road and maybe it felt long to her, but here's the thing - she could have not started, and she'd be standing here today without the exciting career path she has in front of her.

It's amazing how far away things can seem when you're in the moment and contemplating if you want to start. I also fall into the trap of calculating how old I'll be "when". The reality is, what are you going to do instead? Waste time until you get to be that age?

People are in such a hurry to accomplish things, but it would be so much more effective and enjoyable to just START, and then be consistent over time.

{I'm talking about your big picture goal here. Within that goal, there are times to push really hard and get something done in a short period of time. That's part of the ebb and flow of working toward to the big goal.}

What is it that you're putting off starting because it will take a long time to accomplish?

  • Is it starting a company because you think it will take 2 or 3 years to replace your current income? Why not start part-time now?
  • Maybe it's the prospect of losing weight because at one pound a week of weight loss, it will take a year? The alternative is letting another year pass and wishing you started now.
  • Or you have a dream of paying off your debt, but you did the math and it will take three years. Well, you could either start today and be done in 3 years... or not.

So, start now. Time will pass anyway.
